Compare the Market is recruiting for a Commercial Lawyer/Legal Counsel to join our dynamic legal team in Peterborough. Ideally you will have a particular interest in data protection and privacy

Some of the great things you’ll be doing:

·       Provide expert legal advice and guidance on data protection and other regulatory matters (including competition law and financial services) to internal stakeholders.

·       Review and draft contracts, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with data protection laws, including the UK GDPR.

·       Conduct data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and advise on risk mitigation strategies.

·       Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement data protection measures and privacy-by-design principles.

·       Handle data subject access requests (DSARs), other data subject rights, and manage responses within regulatory deadlines.

·       Stay abreast of evolving data protection laws and other applicable regulations to advise on compliance strategies and best practices.

·    Advising on digital advertising, the use of various advertising technologies and AI technologies.

·     Provide expert legal advice on commercial and contractual law matters ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.

What we’d love to see from you:

·       Qualified solicitor with some experience in data protection as a practice area, preferably in a commercial or in-house legal environment.

·       Strong understanding of the UK GDPR and other relevant data protection legislation.

·       Awareness and understanding of FCA rules, guidance, and applicable regulations.

·       Demonstrated ability to interpret complex legal requirements and provide practical guidance to non-legal stakeholders.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments.

·       Proven track record of managing data protection projects and driving compliance initiatives.

·       Attention to detail and ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
